IRA KALIAMPETSOS

  • Born and raised in Athens

  • Law Degree - Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Germany

  • Postgraduate Studies in “Art and Law ” – Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz, Austria

  • Member of the Athens and formely Düsseldorf Bar Association.

  • Ira's native languages are Greek and German. She is fluent in English (spoken and written) and has a good knowledge of Turkish.

German Embassy in Athens - Desk Officer

December 2013 - June 2014

In 2014 Ira Kaliampetsos served as Desk Officer at the German embassy in Athens. There she was, amongst others, responsible for overviewing the reform process according to the main MOUs between EU-KfW-IMF-GR. She was also mainly responsible for the coordination of the German initiatives within the activities of the EU Task Force Greece and the German-Greek Cooperation initiative ‘Deutsch-Griechische Versammlung (DGV)’.

Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs “Hellenic Aid” - Legal Advisor

First Appointment (2000 bis 2003)

  • Negotiations and preparation of contracts between the Ministry and the implementing organizations

  • Preparations of draft laws regulating the legal framework of the department and its objectives.

  • Preparation of Financial and Ministerial Acts.

  • Member of the evaluation committee for the award of grants to Greek NGOs

  • Member of the Greek Delegation for the DAC development co-operation evaluation review to Albania (2001/02).

  • Member of the Greek Delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the preparation of the Review of the Development Co-operation Policies and Programs of Greece (Peer Review, 2006).

Second Appointment: (2011 - 2013)

  • Providing legal advice on the closing of 198 contracts between the Greek State and NGO’s. Each contract corresponds to an international development cooperation project.

  • Preparations of a draft law regulating the legal framework for the closing of these contracts.

2016 - today

Ira is also a founding Member of the Greek-German Consulting Group, a Greek German team of consultants that consults in a variety of issues that are related to Greece and Germany and the interrelation of the two countries. In co-operation with:

Election Observation

2000 - today

Ira has participated in several short term observation missions for OSCE/ODHIR through the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs mainly in the Balkans.

International Development Cooperation

1999 - 2000

In 1999-2000 Ira was as Mission Coordinator in Kosovo for the Greek NGO “Institute of International Social Affairs”. She was mainly responsible a) for the management of the mission, consisting of 15 staff members and

b) for the implementation of two Humanitarian Aid projects financed through ECHO

i) Distribution of Shelter Kits and

ii) Rehabilitation of Schools and

c) Liaising with other NGOs on field
